This winter, enjoy a merry mix of festive cheer and seasonal transport history at London Transport Museum. From 27 November, Santa will be setting up shop in Covent Garden in a magical winter grotto, ready to hear those all-important Christmas wishes. Families can climb aboard his Routemaster bus inspired sleigh, complete with buttons and bells, while cheerful elves will be on hand to capture the perfect family photo.

Throughout the festive season, costumed characters from London’s past will be popping up in the Museum’s galleries to share stories and seasonal traditions – from a Victorian lady to a 1970s Caribbean conductor. Visitors can also follow a festive trail through the Museum’s galleries to explore 200 years of Christmas travel. From steam trains to Victorian carriages, discover how Londoners journeyed through Christmases gone by.

After exploring the galleries, warm up in the Museum café with indulgent festive sweet treats, seasonal savoury bites, and cosy winter warmers – perfect for a festive pit stop in the heart of Covent Garden.

Adult tickets to visit London Transport Museum in Covent Garden include free return day-time entry for a whole year, and kids go FREE!

Whats On

Meet Santa and the Elves

When: 27 November - 23 December, 11:00 to 15:00 (weekdays) and 11:00 to 17:00 (weekends and holidays).

Where: Transportorium

Santa is setting up shop in Covent Garden from Thursday 27 November. Come and explore our magical Christmas grotto where little ones can climb aboard an interactive sleigh, with buttons and bells. Cheerful elves will be on hand to help capture the perfect family photo, while the man in red will be listening to those all-important Christmas wishes. Santa will be heading back to the North Pole on 23 December, in time to load up his sleigh for Christmas Eve.


Christmas Characters

When: 11:00 to 16:00, weekends during term time, daily during holidays and weekends.

Where: Museum galleries

It’s not just Santa and the elves who are joining us this Christmas, four of the Museum’s most popular costumed characters can’t wait to meet you. Meet a Victorian Lady and Alf Gaunt a tram passenger, an Auxiliary Fire Service Wartime Volunteer and Sydney the Caribbean Conductor.

Each day two characters will be sharing their stories and Christmas connections to the London transport network.


Festive Musical Performances

When: 14:00 on Thursday 27 November and Fridays from 5 to 19 December .

On select dates in the lead up to Christmas, visitors can enjoy festive musical performances in the Museum’s galleries as part of our Music in the Museum programme.


Festive Trail

When: daily from 29 November until 4 January

Where: Museum galleries

Families can follow a festive family trail through the Museum’s galleries to explore 200 years of seasonal stories. From Victorian carriages to steam trains, visitors can discover how Londoners have travelled during holidays past. 


London Transport Museum will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and reopen on 27 December.


Need to Know

Visitors under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

You need an Annual Pass and a timed entry ticket to visit London Transport Museum in Covent Garden.

Their annual passes are valid for 12 months from date of purchase. You are entitled to visit the Museum as many times as you like within that 12 months. You can only hold one timed entry ticket at any one time. You can book another timed entry ticket as soon as the date of your current visit has passed.

They offer three types of Annual Passes - Unlimited, Off Peak and Plus, and you can book your timed entry ticket, when purchasing your Annual Pass or by logging in once you have a Pass.

Kids go free and don’t need an Annual Pass but will need a free timed entry ticket which you can add to basket during checkout.

Unlimited daytime entry to the Museum in Covent Garden for a whole year.
Adults £25.00, Concessions* £24.00, Local Resident** £20.00, Universal Credit and Pension Credit***

Off Peak Annual Pass
Entry to the Museum on weekdays after 2pm (term-time and summer holidays only1) for a discounted price. Perfect if you’re looking for a quieter visit.

Annual Pass Plus
Unlimited daytime entry to the Museum in Covent Garden plus free entry for you and two children at our Depot Open Days in Acton.

Concession rates apply to Senior citizens (60+), Students (with valid student ID card), Visitors with disabilities (also entitled to a free carer/companion ticket).
Carer tickets are intended for those who care for persons with disabilities, including people with hidden disabilities. Please reserve your carer ticket when you make your purchase.
Please bring proof of your disability as you may be asked to show this. Forms of proof include blue badges, DWP or DLA letter, Disabled Identification Card (DID), Disabled Bus Pass or a medical letter. This can be either printed or on an electronic device.
**Local Residents
Local resident rates apply to residents of Westminster, Holborn, Bloomsbury, Kings Cross, Waterloo, Vauxhall, Borough, Bermondsey and Elephant and Castle.
***Universal and Pension Credit
Available to people on:
Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit
Employment and Support Allowance
Universal Credit & Pension Credit Annual Passes are sold on an individual basis. Each named passholder must provide individual proof of receipt of one of the above.
Proof of latest correspondence is required, either printed or on an electronic device. You can access your correspondence and relevant proof by logging into the gov.uk website.

Off Peak Annual passes
Off Peak Annual Pass holders can visit the Museum in Covent Garden Monday to Friday after 2pm during term time and Summer school holidays as designated by Westminster City Council. Off Peak Annual Pass holders are not eligible to visit during other school holidays or half term breaks.
