Best Bits

Follow a trail of breadcrumbs into the Globe Theatre on London’s Bankside and join Hansel and Gretel on a daring fairy tale adventure, by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage. It’s full of danger, temptation and tasty surprises for everyone age 5+.

Featured in Evening Standard’s 2023 Best Children’s Shows to Book at Christmas.

Away from the rubble of their war-torn village, a mother and father leave their two children in the woods to find a safer life. But Hansel and Gretel's plans to go home get side-tracked by a trail of treats too good to resist and a seemingly-sweet stranger with a plan of her own...

‘A road made of bits of bread, says she? Yes, a road, and a road we can eat – follow me!’

Nick Bagnall (Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Globe) directs this modern re-telling of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale, returning to the Globe with a new recipe of music and mayhem.

Bring the world of Hansel and Gretel to life with the whole family with their accompanying workshops for ages 5–8 and 9–12. And join writer Simon Armitage for The Globe Talks Q&A event on Sunday 15 December.

Did you know that The Globe was generally considered to be a circular building, however, when a small part of the theatre’s foundations were uncovered in the late 1980’s it seems that the building was actually a polygon of 20 sides.
