There’s nothing quite like getting lost in a good book, so let’s celebrate that on World Book Day, happening this Thursday, March 6th! Sharing stories with your kids is one of the best bonding activities and we love to champion and nurture a love of reading here at LittleBird! That’s why we’re all about World Book Day—a huge celebration of everything related to books, reading, and stories. What’s not to love?
Several beloved children’s books are celebrating significant anniversaries in 2025. These anniversaries offer wonderful opportunities to revisit these cherished stories and introduce them to new generations of readers via traditional books and page to stage productions. We thought we would highlight these wonderful gems and celebrate them.
40th anniversary of Matilda | Roald Dahl
Since its release in 1985, Matilda has inspired young readers with its story of a brilliant and resilient girl overcoming adversity. Matilda by Roald Dahl tells the story of a young, exceptionally intelligent girl named Matilda, who is neglected and mistreated by her ignorant parents. Despite her challenging home life, she discovers her remarkable telekinetic powers and forms a bond with her kind school teacher, Miss Honey. Together, they stand up to the school’s cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, ultimately helping Matilda find happiness and a loving home with Miss Honey.

80th Anniversary of The Little Prince | Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Celebrating its 80th Anniversary, The Little Prince, written by French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, tells the story of a young prince who journeys through the universe, gaining wisdom. Translated into hundreds of languages, it has sold around 200 million copies, making it one of the best-selling books of all time.

75th Anniversary of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe | C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic children’s fantasy novel that transports readers into the magical land of Narnia through a wardrobe. In this enchanting world, four siblings Edmund, Susan, Peter and Lucy must defeat the evil White Witch and restore the rightful ruler to the throne. Published in 1950, it remains a beloved tale of adventure and courage.

20th Anniversary of The Gruffalo’s Child | Julia Donaldson
The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson is a sequel to The Gruffalo. In this story, the Gruffalo’s young child is curious and eager to explore the deep dark wood, despite her father’s warnings about the terrifying creatures lurking there. Venturing out, she meets the same characters from the first book—a fox, an owl, and a snake—and is frightened by their tales of the fearsome “big bad mouse.” However, the Gruffalo’s child soon discovers that the “big bad mouse” is much smaller than she imagined and ends up outwitting the creatures. Ultimately, she returns home safely, having learned that things aren’t always as scary as they seem.

60th Anniversary of Where the Wild Things Are | Maurice Sendak
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, this beloved picture book continues to enchant readers with its imaginative tale. The story follows Max, a mischievous boy sent to his room for causing trouble. Left alone, he creates a fantastical world of towering trees and vines, sailing off to become the king of a land filled with wild, party-loving monsters. However, feeling lonely, he eventually returns home.

10th Anniversary of Supertato” by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet
This series has captured the hearts of young readers since its debut in 2015. Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet is a fun story about a brave potato who becomes a superhero in the vegetable aisle of the supermarket. When the evil pea causes mischief by trapping other vegetables, Supertato springs into action to save the day. With his superpowers and quick thinking, Supertato battles the evil pea and restores order to the veggie world. The book is filled with colourful illustrations and playful characters, making it a favourite for young readers.
