Why We’re in Love with Fun Kids Radio’s Podcasts

Everyone knows that screen time is a massive worry, it seems to be all anyone ever talks about as a parent but technology doesn’t have to be all bad when it comes to entertaining the kids.

We all love a good podcast to keep us awake on the way to and from work or when you’re out running errands, but did you know that there’s also audio content out there for kids?

But as with any medium, it can be a challenge to find good stuff that’s age-appropriate and will also keep the kids learning. That’s why we’ve turned to Fun Kids Radio.

If you don’t already know Fun Kids is the UK’s children’s radio station. Their fantastic mix of music, games and silliness is perfect for 6 to 12-year-olds. The music is mostly from TV shows and kid’s movies as well as from the current charts. But they also have lots of stories, competitions, fun features, and recommendations for family events and things-to-do.

But what we’re obsessed with are their podcasts created just for kids and here are our top 3 recommendations that we think you’ll love too:

Fun Kids Science Weekly

We all know that we’ll do just about anything to get our kids to be interested in any of the S.T.E.M. subjects and the Fun Kids Science Weekly is a perfect way to get kids interested. In each episode, they take a look at the week’s biggest science stories getting kids excited about what’s new in science and so they can see what amazing things are happening all around them because of the wonders of this fantastic subject.

There’s also some amazing special guests and top experts answering all science-related questions that come directly from listeners! Each episode is only 20 minutes, perfect for the school run and we promise it will blow your mind how much it will get kids talking about science.

The Space Programme

A great way to get kids into reading is a fiction podcast. Whether you’re reading it or listening to it a story activates the same area’s of the brain and gets the imagination going and helps kids learn how to deal with emotional situations. In fact, in recent studies, people have reported that the dramatised telling of podcasts generates more vivid images in their minds and more story investment than traditional audiobooks.

That’s why we are incredibly excited for Fun Kids Radio’s new serialized podcast The Space Programme.

A small Scottish island is shocked to find itself home to a brand new space program. When two tech entrepreneurs announce their plan to make one of the local kids the world’s first child astronaut, nothing is ever the same again.

If the kids don’t already listen to podcasts this sci-fi adventure will be a great introduction to the world of fiction podcasts and we’re sure it’s going to have listeners of all ages glued to the speakers until the very end.
