Family Fun Day: Our amazing planet

Why do we have earthquakes and volcanoes? Can you create your own cloud? And why does it rain so much in Wales? Get hands-on with all the family at the Royal Institution’s Family Fun Day all about the wonders of this world – the science of our earth and its systems. Learn how the world is changing around us, what keeps everything alive and how we know about the Earth millions of years ago.

Under the sea

From shell-stealing octopuses to snails that suck sharks’ blood, molluscs are a weird bunch. Join marine biologist Helen Scales to find out how hermit crabs like to party and butterflies learnt to swim. This interactive talk dives into the spiraling world of seashells and the bizarre animals that make them.

Kitchen chemistry

Stephen Ashworth will show how everyday items can be seen in a new light to illustrate the principles of chemistry. Find out how fruit tea, baking powder and a toaster are all connected in this energetic exploration of the chemicals that surround us.
