LITTLE MONSTERS looking for a spook-tacular day out this October half-term need look no further than Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire, as Boo at the Zoo returns for a week of frightfully good family fun.
From Saturday 25 October to Sunday 2 November, Boo at the Zoo will see the UK’s largest zoo embrace all things spooky, with events including a Ghoulish Graveyard Trail, scary storytelling sessions and a ghastly ghost tour - a dive into the ghost stories of Whipsnade Zoo’s past.
Boo at the Zoo Halloween highlights
Halloween Costume Contests: Show off your spookiest style! With three contests running each day, winners will receive a small prize. Perfect for all ages—so don’t forget your costume! 3 contests running throughout the day at 11.15am, 12.15pm, 2pm
Spooky Science Shows: Join the Science Boffins for six spine-tingling science shows daily. Free, family-friendly, and interactive—no booking needed! Show times: 11am, 11.30am, 12pm, 12.30pm, 1.45pm, 2.15pm.
Creepy Crafts: Get crafty at their free Halloween craft station to make bat mask, bat headbands and pinecone animals! Open from 10.30am to 3.30pm, it’s the perfect place for little artists to let their imagination run wild.
Halloween Storytime: Enjoy magical stories with interactive Makaton elements for families and kids. Join our free storytelling sessions at 10.30am, 1.15pm, and 3pm.
Ceramic Painting*: Unleash your creativity by decorating Halloween-themed candle holders shaped like pumpkins, bats, or cauldrons. Prices start from only £4.50.
Face Painting*: Transform into a spooky character with Fandango Faces' ghoulish face painting! Available from 11am to 3pm, perfect Halloween fun for children.
Graveyard Trail: Explore our eerie, fun and educational graveyard trail to learn cool facts about the two celebrated species: lemurs and bats. Open 10am – 4pm.
Halloween Railway Trail: Hop aboard The Great Whipsnade Railway for a spook-tacular journey! As you travel the route, look out for lemurs hiding among the ghosts and learn more about these fascinating animals. Included with your rail ticket.
Ghoulish Ghost Tours: Join them to learn about Whipsnade’s ghosts and horrible history! These family-friendly tours are free to join. Recommended for ages 7+ as they include themes of death and gore. No booking required—just turn up if you dare!
Fearless families can spend the rest of their day visiting more than 11,000 animals across the conservation zoo’s 600-acre site – including vampire crabs in the butterfly biome, or the famously-fanged Chinese water deer who roam the drive through.
