Vets in Action at London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo, Regent's Park

London Zoo's February half term fun!

14 - 22 February

Suitable for 0-100 years

Best Bits

This February half term, children can join London Zoo on an exciting rescue mission, stepping into the role of veterinary nurses to help protect endangered animals.

From Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 February, young animal lovers will take part in a hands-on experience that brings the vital work of ZSL’s vets, veterinary nurses and keepers to life. Through immersive roleplay and interactive activities, children will discover how animals are cared for both at London Zoo and through ZSL’s global conservation work.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity for budding vets to test their animal care skills through fun, educational experiences running every day throughout the school holidays.

Vets in Action Experience - The Rescue Mission

The rescue mission experience that takes children on a real-world conservation mission, inspired by ZSL’s work in the field and at the Zoo. Families will begin their journey with a 'mission briefing' about their mission to rescue Darwin Frogs in Tantauco Park.
Young vets will carry out health checks, learn how ZSL monitors disease, and prepare the frogs for transport back to London Zoo. Back at the Zoo’s vet clinic, children will assist veterinary nurses with a routine health check and CT scan on a sloth, discovering the wide variety of work carried out by ZSL’s animal health teams. Along the way, they’ll learn how global conservation action has already led to success, including the birth of new froglets following the rescue programme.

Sessions run every 20 minutes throughout the day and can be booked on arrival at the Vets in Action entrance . Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Zoo while waiting for their allocated time slot.

Additional Activities

Alongside the main Vets in Action experience, families can enjoy extra drop-in activities throughout the week:

  • Teddy Health Check Clinic - Every afternoon from 3pm–5pm, children can bring their favourite teddy to the Teddy Health Check Clinic on the Main Lawn, where they’ll help ensure their furry friends are happy and healthy.
  • Rhino Rescue Roleplay - At selected times, visitors can watch and take part in a roleplay re-enactment of a young rhino receiving a health check, bringing large-animal veterinary care to life.
  • Vet History Talk - As part of ZSL’s 200th anniversary, join a special Vet History Talk exploring 200 years of veterinary innovation at ZSL.
