The V&A always has so much to offer families with art trails, hands-on galleries and backpacks that let kids go on adventures through history and this Half Term is no exception. Designed to ensure families can get inspired and involved in their wonderful exhibitions while encouraging play and learning through the diverse V&A collection and temporary exhibitions.

Pop-up Performance: Winter 2020 - Saturdays from 11th Jan - 28th March  (FREE, Drop-in)  

  • On 4, 11 & 18 January enjoy a fun music session for everyone with Luke Saydon.
  • On 25 January and 1 & 8 February find out about the boy emperor who ruled China.
  • On 29 February meet Mr Polito and his animals. Created by Lisa O'Hanlon and Dan Willis. 
  • On 7, 14, 21 & 28 March, tell stories with Tawala Theatre Company
  • 11.00, 13.00 and 15.00. Duration 30-40 minutes.

Drop-in Design: Theatre Design - Sunday, 12th - 19 January 2020(FREE, Drop-in)  

  • What would Peter Pan or Cinderella be like if they lived today? What is your Wonderland?
  • Join the V&A in January and hack one of these stories or bring your own favourite story.
  • Step into the shoes of a theatre designer to learn about what it takes to create fantastical theatrical worlds.
  • Led by the Drop-in Design team.

Drop-in Design: Dragons and Jugs - Sunday, 26 January 2020 (FREE, Drop-in)

  • Celebrate Chinese New Year with Drop-in Design.
  • In the Ceramics galleries work together to create a scaly Chinese dragon.
  • Learn about the famous Willow Pattern story and create your own to design for a jug or plate.
  • Led by the Drop-in Design team.

Drop-in Design: Dragons and Jugs - Sunday, 2 Feb - Sunday, 1 March 2020 (FREE, Drop-in)

  • Make your own 3D model for new chair design!
  • Join the V&A in the Furniture galleries on Level 4 and explore the museum's amazing chair collection.
  • Go on a creative journey to learn about how a chair is designed, then make your own 3D model using air-drying clay.
  • Led by the Drop-in Design team.

Under-Fives Play Sessions - Friday, 7 February &  Friday, 6 March 2020 (FREE, Drop-in)  

  • Take part in playful and sensory activities for families with under-fives, moving around the museum.
  • On 7 February step into the wonderful world of the V&A book, Clara Button and the Magical Hat Day. 
  • Sessions are at 11.00 and 12.30. Duration 30 minutes approximately.
  • These sessions are free and drop-in but numbers are limited.

Pop-up Performance: February Half-Term 2020 - Saturday, 15 February, 17 – 22 February 2020 (FREE, Drop-in)  

  • Spoken word and images in motion as you journey to the future. 
  • Inspired by Cars: Accelerating the Modern World Exhibition
  • Performances at 11.00, 13.00 and 15.00. Duration: 40 minutes.

The Imagination Station: February Half-Term 2020 - Sunday, 16 – Friday, 21 February 2020 (FREE, Drop-in)  

  • What will be the future of travel? You need to design it.
  • Work with Arup engineers in this multi-dimensional activity inspired by the V&A exhibition Cars: Accelerating The Modern World.
  • Designed in collaboration with Arup engineers.

Make-it: Mobility - Monday, 17 – Friday, 21 February 2020 (£8 per person, Advance booking essential)

  • Work with Ross Atkins Associates to build your own app-controlled vehicles that explore the future of mobility.
  • There are two workshops available per day. Workshop one 10.30-12.30. Workshop two 14.30-16.30.
  • Recommended for ages 5 - 12.

Drop-in Design: Musical Instruments - Sundays from 8th - 29th March (FREE, Drop-in)  

  • Can you invent an unusual musical instrument inspired by the V&A's African objects?
  • Choose from a selection of eco-friendly fun materials and have a go!
  • Led by the Drop-in Design team.

Need to Know
  • Some of the Workshops will incur a small charge please see "Dates and Prices" for more information
  • Exhibitions close 15 minutes prior to Museum closing.
  • Children's meal deals and high chairs are available in the cafés.
  • Packed lunches can be eaten in the Sackler Centre for arts education Lunchroom or in The John Madejski Garden.
  • You are welcome to breastfeed throughout the Museum. Quiet spaces are available for those who prefer privacy
  • Assistance dogs are welcome. Wheelchairs, walking frames, sound enhancement equipment for guided tours, large print maps and a full access guide to the Museum are available from the information desk in the Grand Entrance.
