With school holidays just around the corner, we have been asking friends for their top travel tips and who better to speak to and ask advice from than mum of two and founder of\u00a0Content & Calm<\/a>,\u00a0Solvej Biddle.<\/p>\n

Here are Solvej\u2019s Top travel tips:<\/p>\n

1) Don\u2019t think having a small baby means travelling will be a nightmare<\/strong>
\nWhen your baby is very young (before they start to crawl) they are at their most portable, their needs are reasonably predictable and they sleep a lot. Perfect for long journeys so long as you plan as much of your journey time as possible around nap times, with regular breaks included around feeding times.<\/p>\n

2) Military Packing planning<\/strong>
\nWhilst this might sound obvious, planning and creating a master packing list for your children avoids last minute panic-packing \u2013 a strategy that always leaves you feeling you\u2019re carting around a whole load of extra STUFF with at least one crucial item ending up home alone!<\/p>\n

3) Supplies<\/strong>
\nFor older babies & children take a good supply of drinks and snacks with you to avoid your child getting hungry if there\u2019s an unplanned delay (or for distraction if necessary!) Stick to non-sticky non-crumbly foods if you can and snacks like mini packs of dried fruit are great for keeping little fingers busy for longer too. My son used to spend an inordinately long time taking raisins out one by one, choosing one to eat, returning the others, and then starting again\u2026<\/p>\n

4) A bag for each child<\/strong>
\nAs soon as your child is old enough to enjoy toys and books, their own backpack or TrayKit\u00ae<\/a> can be a life-saver. If they are young, pack it for them with a mixture of familiar toys, paper, crayons but include some new things to make travelling exciting if you\u2019re on a long trip. If your child is a little older (3+), encourage them to pack their own bag. They love to do this but I recommend a certain amount of adult supervision having checked my son\u2019s bag and found it contained carefully packed train track but no trains. Older children also love audio books and will often be happily occupied on long journeys listening to favourite stories or songs.<\/p>\n

5) Plan ahead for your destination<\/strong>
\nOnce you\u2019ve arrived, ensuring that they have an environment as familiar as possible can keep a young baby rested and happy. \u00a0Think about how your baby\u2019s going to get their sleep in the day and during the night.. I didn\u2019t think about this enough our first trip away with Andrea Anna when she was a few months old and sleeping through the night. \u00a0Unable to block out the light in our room, her daytime sleep pattern was soon in tatters she was grouchy and exhausted and so were we. \u00a0Plus stumbling around in the dark trying not to wake her when we were sharing a room wasn\u2019t great either. \u00a0I ended up designing the Cot Canopy<\/a> and the rest is history\u2026!<\/p>\n

6) Don\u2019t try to be too ambitious<\/strong>
\nRemember what your baby will need to be happy and settled and chances are you\u2019ll have a wonderful holiday \u2013 Enjoy!<\/p>\n
